Choosing a good college matters

Choosing a good college matters

Which college do I go to? This is a question that almost everyone asks at some point in life. The University Grants Commission has been issuing fake universities list every year since 1994 (see box-we have a list that was issued this year as well) yet there are several universities that are operational in spite of finding themselves in the list. People are to be blamed who join fake universities.

What can students do?

Students and parents have to be conscious and aware before applying for admission in any university.

They can track about the university through alumni list and contact them on social media, if needed.

Check the details of the university through regulatory body websites such as, the UGC, NTA, AICTE etc.

Verification process of land giving process can be made stricter by the governments to any educational institution. Checking of the land and usage can be done every 3 to 5 years.

Apart from the above, speaking to students who passed out from the college helps. There are many colleges that wind up within a year or two. Check for how long the college has been functioning and a good read of the website helps. Usually, good colleges have their objectives clearly mentioned and the activities and events put up. That is an indication.

Many colleges make tall promises. One can easily find out by talking to the faculty. Meeting them, asking them about the extracurricular activities and additional courses.

Additional courses

A good college would always have additional courses that enhance skills and prepare one for the world. The easiest way is to check out and take a decision.
